Have your considered having your wife see a Neurologist? The headaches she's experience sound severe enough that they might be migraines that she's experiencing. Symptoms of migraine include sensitivity to light and other stimuli, nausea and vomiting, sensitive skin, numbness on one side of the face (which sometimes causes the face to look different while the migraine is occurring), aura distorts vision, headaches often will start at part of the head and spread to the back of the head. My migraines actually start at the base of my head and spread to the top of my head. But, I will get the nausea, aura, etc., beforehand. Also, I have kept a journal of my migraines and have found that my menstrual cycle coincides with my migraines and my Neurologist told me that hormones can be a trigger for Migraine. There are wonderful medications out there now that are non-narcotic that treat migraines and they work right at the source. Unfortunately, self-treating with OTC medications usually doesn't help and the migraine just has to go away on it's on and they can last some time. The great thing about the new migraine medications called Triptans is they tend to be quick acting and you can usually go on with your day after taking one. I find Zomig to be very effective for me, however there are many on the market. I used to get so many migraines that I also take migraine prevention medication, which helps immensely.
